Next generation GPR Technology at National Grid Cable Avoidance Day
Prominent guests and speakers from the UK construction industry were ever present. Welcome and Introduction to the event was given by Michael Dyke, Director of UK Construction, National Grid, and Mark Fairbairn, Executive Director, Gas Distribution, National Grid. The new TT Group GPR Horizontal Directional Drilling Bore-head with durable antennas with ‘look ahead and look sideways’ capability was highlighted and on display.

Manor farm harvests geothermal heat
Manor Farm is located on the edge of the beautiful village of Eyeworth and was constructed in 1865. The new owners drew up a sympathetic detailed restoration and modernisation plan for the building which incorporated under floor heating. In oder to keep the heating costs to a minimum they opted for a Ground Source Heat Pump to provide heating and hot water. Following careful consideration, the Geothermal Radial Drilling (GRD) method was chosen for the drilling process.

GRD - applicable where other systems fail
The company Winter from Fürth in Germany had decided to replace the aging electro heating in their residential and business premises and thus had closely been watching the market for geothermal heat extraction for more than two years. Provision was made for applying a geothermal heat extraction unit with a refrigerating capacity of 20 kW. To achieve this capacity bores of 400 m length all together werenecessary. The bores were carried out from the approx. 120sqm large inner courtyard, which is used as a parking area.

Plans become reality for Wales & West utilities
Following its three-plus two year supplier agreement with gas distribution company, Wales & West Utilities, signed in 2008, MAN has delivered two new MAN TGS 26.440 6x2-4 BL chassis with ground-breaking suction excavation equipment from TT-UK and German design partner RSP. These are the first two vehicles of their kind purchased by WWU and are used for below ground gas-pipe maintenance and replacement work. Surrounding ground, including broken concrete, is sucked up and deposited in a chassis mounted container.

Innovations for a better environment
TT-UK attended the Highways & Utilities Innovations Day held at Longbridge, Warwickshire on 10th February 2010. The event, organised in partnership with West Midlands HAUC, Severn Trent Water and Enterprise, ensured that the day was packed full of live demonstrations in a practical hands-on working environment. Grundoburst 400S manhole burster establishes UK record
In Barry/UK an old vitrified clay sewer ND 300 has been replaced with a PC pipe ND 250 mm from within an existing manhole using the Grundoburst 400S rig. For the first time in the UK this diameter pipe has been burst out from within a manhole.
